The Challenge
Universal Studios production services department works directly with movie producers to track film budgets, resources, release dates and talent. The FileMaker database they had created to perform these tasks was quickly becoming convoluted and difficult to work with. To meet the needs of their demanding client base they urgently needed their database to be streamlined and more user friendly. They also needed to appease a number of producers who refused to learn the database and wanted everything to be accessible online.
The Alternative Systems Solution
After carefully analyzing the client's needs, Alternative Systems spruced up the database, improving its speed, functionality and ease of use. We then determined exactly which portions of the system they needed online and developed a complimentary web section. The project went over so well that Universal asked Alternative Systems to develop a more robust version of the system that could be accessible to the whole company. This larger application was developed using ColdFusion and SQL server, integrated with the smaller FileMaker application to reduce data redundancy.
This internal database and intranet was developed in FileMaker Pro, CDML, SQL Server and ColdFusion.
